Emma clare
School of Theatre Dance
The Emma Clare School of Theatre Dance is an established IDTA school specialising in a range of dance classes, offered to children age 2 and above. Examination class sizes, are kept small to guarantee individual attention and develop technique. The school offers a friendly learning environment, which combined with a hard work ethic, ensures children learn, improve and develop to the best of their ability. This also helps to nurture pupils’ confidence and self-esteem.
As the sole teacher within the school, continuity of the teaching approach is guaranteed, and with two children of my own, I feel as though I relate well to my pupils, with an awarness of their limitations. As a qualified teacher, I can coach and enter pupils for examinations if so desired (this is not compulsory) I have a 100% examination success rate to date. In addition to exams, pupils will have the opportunity to take part in shows and local community performances, such as in the village gala.
I teach a variety of styles of dance, including Ballet and Contemporary Modern Jazz, which are taught and examined to an advanced level. Freestyle sessions are also available to join, but examinations are not offered in this particular subject within the school.
As well as developing skills in dance, I would recommend my classes to help improve posture and co-ordination within young people. It is the perfect environment for children’s personalities to grow and in turn, form lasting friendships.
About Emma
I trained at The Shirley Tindall School of Theatre Dance in Sheffield from the age of four. In weekly classes I studied ballet, tap and modern jazz to an advanced level. I also loved theatre and took part in shows with operatic societies, local drama groups and agencies.
Once I was 16 and had reached an advanced level with my dancing, I began my teacher training. Four years later, I qualified with the IDTA and set up my own dance school in Hathersage – the village where I have lived all my life.
My husband Joe and I have been together since we were teenagers and we now have two children of our own. Joe has supported me right from the beginning of my teaching career and takes the role of stage manager in our dance productions. I couldn’t have got to where I am today without his continued support and genuine interest in my work.
My children also love to be involved with the dance school in different ways, which makes my job even more enjoyable.
I feel very lucky to have a job I love so much, teaching children is so rewarding in so many different ways. I will always think of my school as my family, my number one priority is their happiness.
